Homemade Peppermint Patties are a sweet treat that my family loves. They are cool, minty, and covered in tasty chocolate. Imagine biting into a creamy peppermint center, encased in a layer of smooth, dark chocolate. It’s a classic combination that never fails to impress.

Ingredients List:
- ½ cup sweetened condensed milk
- 1½ tsp peppermint extract
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 8 ounces dark chocolate, chopped
- 2 tsp oil
How to Make Homemade Peppermint Patties:
1. Prepare the Peppermint Filling:
- In a medium-sized bowl, mix together the sweetened condensed milk, peppermint extract, and powdered sugar.
- Ensure that the ingredients are well combined to form a thick, consistent dough.
2. Shape the Patties:
- Lightly sprinkle powdered sugar on a clean, flat work surface to prevent sticking.
- Place the peppermint dough on the sugared surface and use a rolling pin to evenly roll out the dough to a thickness of approximately 1/4 inch.
- Using a 1-inch round cutter or a small medicine cup, cut out circular patties from the rolled dough.
- Carefully transfer the cut patties onto a baking sheet lined with wax paper.
- Chill the patties in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
3. Melt the Chocolate:
- Place the chopped dark chocolate in a heat-safe bowl and add the oil.
- Melt the chocolate-oil mixture in the microwave using 15-second intervals, stirring after each interval to ensure smooth and even melting.
- Once fully melted, stir the chocolate to achieve a smooth and glossy texture.
4. Coat the Patties:
- Using a fork, gently dip each chilled peppermint patty into the melted chocolate, ensuring it is fully coated.
- Tap the fork on the edge of the bowl to remove excess chocolate and then place the coated patty back onto the wax paper-lined baking sheet.
- Repeat this process for all the patties.
5. Set and Store:
- Once all the patties are coated in chocolate, place the baking sheet back into the refrigerator.
- Allow the chocolate to set and harden for at least 30 minutes.
- Once set, store the peppermint patties in an airtight container in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
Tips:
- Dairy-Free Option: You can substitute sweetened condensed milk with canned sweetened condensed coconut milk and use non-dairy chocolate.
- Storage: The peppermint patties can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
