Ingredients List:
For The Cookies:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 2 cups granulated sugar (400g)
- 4 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2/3 cup sour cream
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 cups all-purpose flour, fluffed and leveled (500g)
For The Frosting:
- 1/2 cup butter
- 2 1/2 cups powdered icing sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 tablespoons milk
How to Make Sour Cream Sugar Cookies:
1. Preparing the Cookie Dough:
- Start by taking a large bowl and using an electric mixer to beat the butter and sugar on high speed until the mixture becomes creamy.
- Gradually add in the eggs, vanilla, and sour cream, continuing to beat until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
- Now, add the baking soda, baking powder, and salt, mixing them in until they’re fully incorporated.
- Slowly add the flour, beating on a low speed, until no white remains. The resulting dough will be soft, resembling cake batter, which is the desired consistency.
2. Baking the Cookies:
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Using a spoon, drop heaping tablespoonfuls of the cookie dough onto the prepared baking sheets, ensuring they are spaced 2-3 inches apart.
- Place the baking sheets in the preheated oven and bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes. You’ll know they’re done when the edges turn a golden color and the centers are set.
3. Preparing the Frosting:
- In a separate bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the butter until it becomes smooth.
- Gradually add the powdered icing sugar, vanilla, and milk, continuing to beat until the frosting is smooth. If needed, you can adjust the consistency by adding more sugar or milk.
- If you wish, you can add some color to the frosting at this stage.
4. Decorating the Cookies:
- Once the cookies have cooled down, spread the prepared frosting over each cookie. You can also add sprinkles or other decorations if desired.
