I’m super excited to share with you one of my absolute favorite recipes – Texas Roadhouse Rolls! If you’ve ever been to Texas Roadhouse, you know how irresistible their rolls are. They’re soft, fluffy, and just melt in your mouth. Well, guess what? You can make them at home, and I’ll show you how!
Ingredients:
- 1 package (1/4 ounce) active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm 2% milk (110° to 115°)
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- 1 large egg yolk, room temperature
- 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons butter, melted, divided
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1-1/2 teaspoons salt
- 3-1/2 cups bread flour
Instructions:
- Activate the Yeast: In a glass measuring cup, dissolve the yeast in warm milk. Set aside until foamy, about 5 minutes.
- Combine Wet Ingredients: In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook attachment, combine the egg, egg yolk, 1/2 cup melted butter, and honey. Add the activated yeast mixture.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: To the wet mixture, add salt and 2 cups of bread flour. Beat on low speed for 1 minute, then increase to medium speed. Gradually add the remaining flour to form a soft dough that pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
- Knead the Dough: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes. Alternatively, you can knead using the stand mixer.
- First Rise: Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
- Shape the Rolls: Punch down the dough and turn it onto a lightly floured surface. Divide and shape into 24 equal-sized balls. Arrange the balls in greased 8×8-inch baking pans, allowing some space between them. Cover with clean kitchen towels.
- Second Rise: Let the dough rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour. Preheat the oven to 350°F during the last 15 minutes of rising.
- Bake: Bake the rolls in the preheated oven until golden brown, about 20-25 minutes. Immediately brush the tops with the remaining 2 tablespoons of melted butter.
- Serve: Serve the rolls warm, ideally with honey butter or your preferred spread.
Notes:
- Yeast Activation: Ensure the milk is warm but not hot to touch. Too high a temperature can kill the yeast.
- Dough Consistency: The dough should be slightly sticky but not overly wet. Adjust flour as needed.
- Rising Time: The rising time can vary depending on the room temperature. Ensure the dough has doubled in size for both rises.
- Serving Suggestion: These rolls are perfect with homemade cinnamon honey butter for an authentic Texas Roadhouse experience.
